The Beowulf is an advanced assault cruiser capable of multi-vector attack and defense strategies. The rollbar connecting the nacelles can become an autonomous vessel, known as "little sister" capable of warp and as well-armed as the mother ship.
The holo-record below depicts a joint mission with the Romulans to investigate strange gravimetric reading coming from a point in the neutral zone near the Romulan border. When the two vessels arrived at the coordinates, they were shocked to discover a previously unknown alien vessel ripping a small planetoid apart and consuming the disintegrating matter.
The Romulan Commander, being unconstrained by Federation protocol began an assault on the PlanetEater, and discovering that energy weapons had no effect on the odd alien shields. During the battle, photon torpedos faired better than phasers on the huge sphere, but couldn't stop the PlanetEater from damaging the Romulan vessel...shearing off one of its wings
Needing to quickly change the balance of the conflict, the Federation captain...armed with analysis from his Science Officer that showed the alien sheilds may have a weakness if subjected not only to the force of an exploding planet, but also to the gravitational effects of a black hole. A black hole similar to the artificial kind used to power the Romulan vessel.
After some quick thinking and calculation, the Captain...a former schoolyard bully...assembled a plan. An ancient children's trick of one child kneeling behind the mark and another pushing him over. After beaming the crew of the damaged Romulan ship to safety, the Beowulf pushed the derelict toward the alien sphere and then proceeded with "Little Sister" to target the planetoid's barely intact core. As the massive explosion pushed the PlanetEater into the Romulan ship...stressing its sheilds to near collapse...the Romulan Commander remotely triggered a core breach on his ship. The implosion of the artificial singularity, made worse by taking the protection protocols that prevent the creation of a rogue black hole offline. The combined raging forces destroyed the PlanetEater, saving other worlds from being consumed.
