U.S.S. GINSU
NX-71701

CLASSIFICATION: Escort/Tactical Corvette

The Ginsu Class is a direct descendant of the successful and powerful Saber Class Tactical Escort. And following the natural evolutionary pattern, the Ginsu is sleeker, faster and more heavily armed.

Compact and maneuverable, the Ginsu incorporates major upgrades in its offensive and defensive systems. Armed with multiple next generation phaser arrays and numerous quantum torpedo launchers, it brings a high level of might into any fight. The Ginsu also makes good use of new Fighter Drone techonologies which allow a ship to utilize the developing mulit-vector assault tactical strategies without the need for ship seperation. The drones are launched from the bay at the aft of the engineering hull and are controlled from the tactical station. These small heavily armed warp-capable quantum torpedo platforms allow the ship to engage multiple targets with minimun risk to life.

Named for the legendary knife that could cut through any material, the Ginsu is a powerful and effective defender of the Federation.

Model Details

This vessel is predominantly scratch built, with the following elements from existing kits. The bulge from the large Voyager kit serves as the top of the main disc, the spine from the back of that kit is the bridge spine. The nacelles use the plasma grill from the Ent E and the bussards and the tops of two SW droid fighters. The deflector is from an Ent D, the bridge is from an Ent E as is the fore sensor palette. The neck from an Excelsior forms the back of the engineering hull, and an alternate shuttle bay from an Ent C. is the forward shuttle bay. The rest of the hull and the nacelles are scratch built from sheet styrene. Some of the compound curves caused me a little consternation, but it came out well. As with all my escorts, the color scheme is Gunship Gray with lighter aztecing, and Gull Gray for the accent colors.
